((Both Stormy and I agreed for Kumiko/D'mei baby to happen during a flight. So I did an offscreen flight.)) IC Date: June 5th, 2013 IC Time: 5:00 pm [/u][/center] Kumiko was wandering the Weyrbowl that day, wearing a flower print summer dress. She was trying to find some peace of mind. She had received disturbing news today, only a few weeks after Raynith's most recent flight. She sighed, once more, and took a look around. She found herself on a forest path, looking around at the hundred of evergreen trees. She sighed, again. She wondered what she was going to do about this. She really didn't know what to do... Kumiko found herself pregnant, the product of Raynith's flight. And it was the bluerider D'mei's child that she carried. While she didn't want to abort the child, she wasn't sure she wanted to keep it either. She wasn't really sure what she wanted at this point. She wasn't even sure she should tell D'mei about it. She wasn't sure how he would react to the news.

One of those evergreen trees that surrounded the forest path shuddered violently as the human trapped in the branches struggled to escape. "It was in jest, you sharding blue!" D'mei shouted after the fleeing shape of the peculiarly marked blue.
He had commented how Rometh had won Raynith's most recent flight, and how he had managed not to rip any wing muscles and how that was surely what had caught the green's adoractions. The blue hadn't taken kindly to the, as D'mei thought it had been, friendly prodding. Rometh had taken to the sky, then swung around and grabbed his rider by the jerkin and then flew out over the forest before simply...letting go of D'mei's jerkin.
Hence his current position of being trapped, mostly upside down, halfway up a tree.
And then he noticed Kumiko. "Oh...Hello, Kumiko! Err, nice day, is it not?" he asked. He didn't notice she looked rather stressed out, because he was too far up to notice the slight signs on her face.

Kumiko looked up at the voice, slightly afraid that she wasn't alone. But as she saw D'mei, hanging almost upside down in the tree, she couldn't help but laugh slightly. She smiled, wondering how he had gotten up there.
"What happened?" She asked, a thick Japanese accent in her voice.
Raynith provided a quick image of Rometh, D'mei's blue, carrying him off and dropping him. Kumiko wondered what the man had done to anger the dragon. She decided she was going to wait to hear what he had to say, however.
She hadn't expected that her day would be slightly brightened by this man, who was partially responsible for her current situation.

"Err, Rometh and I didn't quite see eye to eye. He took offense when I merely meant to kid around with him. So, this is my punishment. Would you...would you be able to get me down? Or Raynith? I find myself sort of...stuck," D'mei admitted, trying again to pull himself free of the grasping branches.
Unlike his previous attempts, however, this time he was rewarded with a low creaking coming from the restraining limbs. Before he had any time to react to the sound, it changed to the cracking of breaking wood. He barely had time to holler "Look out!" down to Kumiko before his support dropped from under him, sending him crashing to the ground.
Tangled with the branches that had come down with him, he groaned before sitting up. Thankfully, he had been able to twist around and land on his back rather than his head, but it was still a couple dozen feet he had fallen. To say he had the wind knocked out of him was a little bit of an understatement.
Other than some nasty bruises and a dull ache that would probably linger in his bones for days, which he determined after a quick assessment once he was able to sit up again, he glanced over at Kumiko. "I'm okay..." he groaned, silently cursing Rometh for throwing him in a tree instead of in the lake.

Kumiko laughed slightly, as D'mei landed in a slight heap among the broken branches. She couldn't help it! It wasn't every day that a man's dragon threw him into a tree, let alone the man falling in such a way.
After a moment Kumiko sobered, kneeling down and offering a hand to help him. It wasn't his fault that he had chosen the wrong day to "advise" his dragon. It also wasn't his fault that his dragon had chosen to Chase on that particular day. With a sigh, Kumiko decided to explain.
"I'm glad you are okay, D'mei. For I have unpleasant news." She said nervously. Her stomach started to roll, and she couldn't be sure it was the pregnancy or her nervousness.

Forcing air back into his lungs, D'mei accepted Kumiko's hand and forced himself upright. He was definitely going to be hurting later, and that blue would have hell to pay. Sure, it might have been D'mei's own doing, but Rometh hadn't needed to throw him in a tree...
"I'm glad you are okay, D'mei. For I have unpleasant news."
Soemthing about Kumiko's tone brought D'mei back to the present, and he frowned. "Are you okay? Is something...wrong...?" A thought occured to him mid-sentence. "You're with child, aren't you?" he asked quietly.

Kumiko was surprised he had guessed it. But at the same time she knew she shouldn't have been. There were many children being born at the Weyr the past year. Kumiko had never thought she would find herself as one of them. She wasn't ready for a child.
Yet here she was, pregnant.
She bowed her head shamefully, her eyes staring at the ground as they brimmed with tears. She folded her hands delicately before her. Then she nodded slightly. She wasn't sure what else to do. Aborting was out of the option; Kumiko may not know what to do with the child, but she wouldn't kill it before it could live.
"I am sorry, D'mei." She whispered.

D'mei frowned at her apparent shame, then took a step forward, wrapping her in his arms. "Hey, it's okay. There's nothing to be sorry about. You're having a baby, it should be a happy thing," he said, holding her close.
He had seen the tears, so he knew this was probably what she needed. She could pretend she didn't want it all she wanted, but it would just affirm his suspicion that a hug, and being held, would be what she needed and actually really wanted.
"Just because I never thought I'd be a dad doesn't mean I don't want to be one," he said, leaning back slightly and reaching a hand under her chin, tilting her face up to look at him. He smiled gently. "Don't worry. Whatever you decide to do, I'll stand by it."

Kumiko shook her head. But she couldn't stop him from talking. She didn't know what she could say to him. All she could think was that this baby needed more than she could give it...
She shook her head again when D'mei had stopped talking. "I'm not going to abort it..." She muttered. "I don't know what I'm going to do with the baby, but I'm not going to kill it before it has a chance to live." She said vehemently.
She did like that fact that he was hugging her. But she didn't know if it was the right thing. So she gently eased out of his arms, taking a step back. She didn't want to upset him, and she really did appreciate that he had wanted to comfort her. But she needed a plan.
"I don't know what to do about this." She muttered quietly.

D'mei tried not to look hurt when she pushed him away, but he...sort of understood at the same time.
"Well, I'm glad that you aren't going to between it. I would like to be a dad at least once," he said, looking over to her before out into the trees.
"But what do you mean by not knowing what to do about it?" he asked, looking back at her, head tilted to the side.

Kumiko shook her head. "This planet's future is uncertain. What if things get worse?" She asked hesitantly.
The news was unpromising. It seemed their precarious situation just kept getting worse. The black holes were only getting bigger and stronger. And Earth was likely to fall into it. And while there was the option of going to Pern, Kumiko was uncertain about that as well.
If things did get worse, and there was the option of going to Pern, that would mean going between. Going between while pregnant was dangerous for the baby. And like she had said, she didn't want to abort it...

D'mei sighed, looking out to the forest again. "All we can do is hope for the best. If the Weyrwoman deems an evacuation necessary, we will just make sure you are extra bundled up," he said. Because honestly, there wasn't much else they could do.
But Raynith would need to get the coordinates and help guide Rometh, because with his random jumps, the pair could easily wind up in space or in a mountain. And that was one of the last things he wanted to happen. And would any Weyr even take them? Rocky, and later Isle, had been created to hold Pern's unwanted pairs, after all...
