Anyone walking into this cavern would think just that; it's a cavern.
And so, technically, it is. Synth has chosen her lair to be nearly ground-level, with a deep and wide overhanging ledge above the mouth of the cavern. This give the area just outside the entrance a large brown-sized patch of shade at all times of the day, and either side is further hidden by large shrubs, ivy, and small trees on either side but for the direct front and center, which makes for a perfect spot for Synth on less sunny afternoons.
The entrance is situated so that there's a shelf of overhanging rock that shades the short path Synth uses to get around during the day- she sticks to a set of paths that are shaded or enclosed, and rarely goes anywhere but the infirmary and feeding grounds, though to feed she has to walk all the way around the weyrbowl or wait until nightfall. Originally, this weyr was intended for a wher, but with a little modification and enlargement, it became a suitable home for the photosensitive dragon.
Inside the weyr, it almost immediately gets very dark. The only lights are kept quite low, so as not to hurt Synth's rather sensitive eyes, and a path of small pale-blue lights line the way to K'ryn's quarters, straight in the back.
Synth's lair is a dragonlength back from the entrance, and is entered through a shallow tunnel that curves twice around itself, effectively making the photosensitive green's home nearly pitch-black. Again, the small, dim, pale lights mark the entrance, but they only go as far in as halfway; anyone wishing to visit the dragon in her weyr past that must navigate by the carved-out handrail along the wall. Synth keeps her lair clean and dark, for obvious reasons. She spends much of her time indoors, in her Weyr, and doesn't mind entertaining visitors; for cases like that, she has baskets of glows and easily manipulated lights set so that there's enough visibility for a human, though she won't turn them on unless it's a request.
(K'ryn simply navigates by using Synth as a GPS. And he has the room memorized.)
K'ryn's quarters are directly back from the entrance, just past Synth's tunnel, in a second large room. Howeve,r he has had a set of doors installed so he can have lights in his part of the weyr.
His rooms are strangely clean, and this fact seems to surprise almost everyone. But the truth is, he has simply always been used to sharing a room, whether it be with other fosterlings, other harper apprentices, or other weyrlings. (Or, really, whichever blue-or-brownrider-slash-harper girl he happened to be woo-ing that day. But that's rather beside the point, now, isn't it?)
His bed, while large (and no, not for THAT reason- he tends to spread out when he sleeps, and prefers his bed to a chair or desk for doing things lime reading or writing) is still neat, almost always made unless he's in it. He keeps only a few things on it, the only one of any importance being a quilt he brought from his weyr at fort, with a design of triangles in a wing-formation pattern in all of the dragon colors. His desk is equally clean, and holds little in the way of personal items, but there is a stack of sheet music, and blank music sheets that he works on when he has free time.
The rest of his room is equally neat; he keeps his wardrobe closed, with his shoes lined in front of it, and he keeps his jacket neatly on a hook on the wall. (It's odd really, that he's really so careful about how he keeps his room, considering his rather laid-back personality)
Along the few shelves he has little trinkets or knicknacks from home; here, a set of pipes from Harper; there, a small framed drawing one of the artist-harpers made for him of he and Synth; and over there, in a small hide bag, a few fragment's of Synth's eggshell, along with one of her egg teeth, and, displayed proudly above that, the nameplate from Synth's first flight harness, long since outgrown, but still carrying meaning for the pair.
Braun sleeps on a small chair by the desk, but he quite prefers to cuddle with K'ryn at night, ducking under the blankets to steal the warm spot histallone leaves behind when he rolls over.
((Guess that works.))
