Name: Arianne- "Ari"
Age: 24
Gender: Female
Sexual Orientation: Bisexual. STRONG Female preference.
Appearance: Ari is a somewhat short woman, about 5' 5". Despite her every effort, she still manages to look about fifteen years old- a flat fifteen. She resembles more a teenage boy than a grown woman. (Much to her dismay.) Her hair is a dark red-maroon, and out of habit she keeps it somewhat short, just long enough that the front covers her eyebrows, and the back touches the back of her neck. (It's also much easier for her to keep it this way.) Her eyes are dark gray, and are surprisingly wide and feminine (the only thing about her) when she's looking at you. She tends to have a sort of intense gaze that contrast with her slightly rounded features, but she's innocent-looking anyway. Her skin is slightly tanned, and speckled with a brush of freckles over her face and shoulders. Her left arm still moves stiffly from her crash with Dracouth, and she has small scars along her hands from too many childhood incidents with fishhooks. She does have one long scar along her right side, from just below her hip, up her side, and curling over her back and along her shoulder, from the threadfall when Dracouth fell and a stray line of thread caught her along there.
She's skinny, and she tries to make herself look more feminine with her style of dress. However...she's just about given up. She tends to stick to comfortable clothes, preferring loose and slightly baggy pants- She inherited them from some of the other riders during a turn where new-weaved clothes were scarce- kept up with a thick hide belt with a rather nice buckle bearing her Weyr's symbol- Ista's Volcano wrought in orange and black.
Her latest attempt at proving she is indeed a female is the black corset she is rather fond of. It's a nice piece, and cost her a good deal at the last gather she attended. Solid black, it reaches just below her ribcage, and just above her navel. It's got no sleeves, and laces up the back, and there's a bit of detailwork on the back that is reminiscent of dragonwings.
(Sadly, despite the fashion, there's not much one can do when one had almost no definition to her curves. She's still thin and boyish-looking, and the corset hardly emphasizes even the one asset it's supposed to. Mostly because she lacks THAT asset too. She's still built like a twig. And a boy.)
She tends to prefer to wear a sleeveless rider's jacket over that (despite that when it's fastened closed, she looks decidedly male), but one she tailored to her own liking; the back reaches nearly to her ankles, and the neck clasps elegantly in a high collar under her chin, but the front cuts off just slightly lower than the corset. (She likes to show off the belt; she's damn proud of being a rider for Ista. ) This is also echoed in the rider's knot at her shoulder, orange and black mingled with the brown of her dragon.
She rarely wears anything but standard-issue rider's boots, although in warmer weather she's fond of sandals. She also wears a pair of fingerless hide gloves with the backs stretching a bit of a ways past her wrist.
(Her rather breezy manner of dress comes from being stationed at Ista for so long. The warm climate made the heavier riding gear mostly unneded other than for threadfall or high-altitude flights.)
Picture: I don't have one. I think my Description got long enough on it's own.
History: A holder's daughter, Arianne was raised and brought up as holder at Nerat. Her father was mainly a fisherman, and her mother a netweaver. Though Ari didn't have any particular complaints about being brought up as the 'fifth son' of a fisher's family, she still wasn't exactly thrilled with the thought.
When her parents noticed her apathy, they tried to solve the problem. However...since they had very little clue as to what would please a young girl, they decided to arrange a marriage for her, to the shipwright's son.
Ari nearly drowned herself off the side of her father's fish boat the next day.
However, she was stopped by the simple thought that it would be ridiculous to waste her life on something so silly. So she steeled herself and prepared to make the best of her situation. Luckily? She was searched a few weeks later. (And during a fitting for a wedding gown too.) She was lucky enough to impress Dracouth at Ista's next hatching.
The shipwright's son married a basketweaver. Apparently they live a pleasantly mediocre life. (Oddly, on Brack and Ganeena's anniversary, Ari make a point to send them some sort of gift. She never DISliked Brack, but she certainly never wanted to MARRY the boy.)
Personality: Ari is very levelheaded, and tries to always work out a problem on her own before consulting others for assistance. She is relatively calm, and rarely swings from one range of emotion to another without good reason, though if she's focusing too much on something in her own head, she may start to become oblivious to her surroundings.
She does have a terrible sense of direction, and while she is able to give coordinates for between to her dragon accurately enough, she will inevitably get dreadfully lost if she's going somewhere on foot. (Her companions in her Weyrling group still mock her for the incident where she managed to get halfway to the bay before she realized she wasn't in the Weyr anymore. She acquired some rather amusing nicknames, too.)
Dragon Name: Dracouth
Dragon Color: Brown
Dracouth - Dracouth is a kind, affectionate, but lazy brown. He loves to sleep and sunbathe throughout the day. His favorite way to spend time with His and any others who he befriends, is to take a nice long nap on his ledge. Despite his size, Dracouth is an avid snuggler, nuzzler and.. licker. (If Ari happens to be having a particularly bad hair day, you can be certain Dracouth's tongue served as hairdresser for the day.) He’s known for using his entire body to convey his emotions, even more so than his thoughts or eye color. (Some of the other Weyrlings -...Tag... at Rocky gave him the nickname of 'Tiger' after both his catlike personality and his markings. )
Dracouth is a big guy, nearing the size of some smaller and mid-sized bronzes, with a heavy jawline and powerful and huge wings. He's got a slight overbite, and his teeth are slightly misaligned, so the teeth on his upper jaw tend to stick out over his lower one. He has a deep and broad chest, and his shoulders and legs are very powerful; he's something of a muscular beastie.
He's a very handsome brown, his hide's base color a nice classic but slightly light tan-brown. He's got tones of deep sepia, stripes along his neck and neck, and the very base of his tail, in a very tiger-like pattern. He's also got a second set of markings, again, oddly patterned after a breed of earth cat; his limbs, tail, and face end in tones of sepia, in a pattern reminiscent of a Siamese cat. His underbelly, the undersides of his tail and neck, and the membranes of his wings are a creamy pale brown, though only the ends of his wings have the striations of dark brown at the ends.
Dragon Defect/Injury: Seizure disorder: Epilepsy. Dracouth has seizures triggered by the specific light-flash pattern created by dragons who flame thread, and on occasion, smaller spontaneous ones.
No one noticed the reaction until his first threadfall, but since the seizure wasn't severe the very first time, it was dismissed. (It was a smaller-type, one that simply caused him to sort of 'blank out' and become very confused.)
After that, no one noticed that the seizures were triggered by Firestone-flame, as they frequently happened in smaller magnitude and during the night, and he only ever had one that was severe enough for someone other than Ari to notice. On occasion, others would notice Drakouth's tendency to 'space out' and blink rapidly, but they passed it off as simple Dragon oddness.
Then came their first threadfall actually flying with a wing. Everything went fine until the wings began flaming. Dracouth began to falter, and he was scored briefly more than once as his confusion began to take over. Then came the big one; Dracouth began seizing violently, and he blacked out. He and Ari fell from the sky; and though they only fell a short ways before a bronzerider managed to come to support, Dracouth still wasn't able to be restrained and he and Ari hit the side of a cliff pretty hard.
Ari didn't feel it when he arm was broken in three places, nor did she feel the threadscore across her side until much later. She was screaming along with Dracouth, trying to pull him back to consciousness. When he finally came around again, he was exhausted, confused, and had no idea how he- or Ari- had been injured or ended up on the ground. After a few tests by the dragonhealers, they realized his problem, and kept him within the Weyr the next time thread fell. Finally, they sent the pair to Rocky, both for possible treatment and a lack of Threadfall. (Also because Dracouth was nearly driving himself to madness trying to get out of the Weyr to fight thread.)

Calm- also clever and proud. He's been given a big name, and he looks like he'll easily grow into it. He's very smart and very protective of Ari, and, like his namesake, fond of shiny objects he 'borrows' and gives as presents to pretty greens.
With his elegant markings and lovely hood in a dark, nearly-black color, he's a very handsome flit too.
