but what if their history is the same 'beginning' thing as i is for weyrlings?

instead, the earth child finds a flitter egg and ends up in rocky as a candidate?

although they would be pushed into that world rather abruptly...

That's an interesting possibility, but I'm not too sure on if it would work or not. C: That's something you'd have to ask Topaz or Faizah about, but both are kinda... MIA at the moment, with Faizah having computer troubles, and Topaz is busy.

Of course, I think we have a candidate with a Earth background, and was sent to Pern due to a flitter, but they managed to not Impress at Pern, so they went back to Rocky... But I would think that similar to the weyrlings, an Earth child that finds a firelizard egg would just be taken to Pern instead of Rocky.

But I feel kinda... Unhelpful now. xD I'm just the mod of pretty things, not the mastermind behind Rocky! Sorry I can't be of much help with that. ^-^;;

Phazzys right. I am the Mastermind of Rocky according to ideas. Topaz keeps everything running smoothly. Phazzy keeps things pretty.

But anyway, since we have no eggs hardening on the sands, we are only taking candidates with high military connections. Unless the candidate was too old or had repeatedly failed to Impress on Pern.

question, if i wanted a candidate, as the son of a government official, would this be a good history and reason?
instead of a dragon being to cripple, the candidate is the cripple

born to high-ranking government official Father, and school-teacher Mother, nataniel (natan) Bolten had a mainly ordinary life untill the year of his 4th birthday. An arsenist- a man who disaproved of his father- set fire one night to their hom in the rockies, and his door became stuck closed so that his parents could not open it. he was severly burnt and scarred.
His left arm is crippled but for the movement of the shoulder and elbow, and he has harsh scars along left side of face and on eyebrow.He has a harsh Lisp because the young him bit his tongue in fear. His legs were burned as well, and siting in one position for more than 2 hours is painful for him.The crippling of his arm and leg came from something falling on him. Firemen came to the home in time to save him from death, but he was crippled as stated.
When the Pernese first came to Earth, his father did not hear of it, nor did he after the first few years, in fact, untill rocky weyr had settled a bit more. Then, they heard about the pernese, and after learning more, Natan volunteered to try out impressing a firelizard hatchling. He was succesful, and ended up with a ________ flitter!
After that, he talked with his parents, and they volunteered him as a candidate on Pern.

The pernese put him for one hatching, which he did not impress at, and then a new weyrleader at the Weyr he was sent to, decided that "A crippled boy will not be able to stand the length of threadfall in the saddle, nor will he be up to the strenuosity of a pern-world life, and furthermore, we would not be able to accomodate one such as this boy.". so he was sent back to Earth's Rocky Weyr to await the coming green clutch-hatching,in six weeks and four days, to see if he would impress.

It looks fine to me, save for the part about him being a candidate on Pern. The Pernese wouldn't allow such a cripple to stand at a hatching, especially not if a weyrleader said he wouldn't "be able to stand the length of threadfall in the saddle, nor will he be up to the strenuosity of a pern-world life." I hardly think any of the other weyrleaders would think otherwise with dragons being important to the weyrs. Candidates on Pern normally don't have physical/mental deformities/problems if the Pernese can avoid it.

Also, I'm just being nit-picky here: Impressing a firelizard on Earth isn't something you'd up and try to do, since the firelizards are only owned by a handful of people on Earth. Finding a clutch that someone has and was willing to allow others to bond to a flitter is rare.. He wouldn't have much say in if he wanted to bond to a firelizard or not, unless he managed to find a clutch.

However, if he were to be a candidate at Rocky, I think it would be fine, if like... Maybe his family moved to be closer to Rocky, and he and his father spent many days at Rocky Weyr, or something?

When the Pernese first came to Earth, his father did not hear of it, nor did he after the first few years, in fact, untill rocky weyr had settled a bit more. once that happened, his father was clued in, and to Natan's great surprise and joy-- his dad never took him anywhere like that!--- he brough nataniel with him on more than one occasion. Natan grew more comfortable in the Weyr, and his heart turned to yearning to be able to impress one of the great Dragons-- or, at least, a fire lizard!
--basically, he's searched for the green Jadavath's clutch, though it is 6 weeks from *now*.

We still have openings for creating fire lizards, so if you want him to have one, he can stumble upon a clutch that's hatching, allowing for him to bond to one of the hatchlings.

Natan's history looks good to me now, though being at the weyr already, he wouldn't be Searched. If he was of age, he would be included as a candidate if he wanted too. He looks fine to me, though I can't speak for Topaz or Faizah. C:
