Create a Sport Color Contest Welcome to Rocky Weyr's second contest, the Sport Color Contest! Going along with our new color poll, a few sport colors are being discussed. However, we don't want to leave it only to the staff to create such things. In an attempt to get the members more involved, we are opening a contest for members to create one of Rocky's new dragon colors. The rules are as follows. Rules- Be realistic with colors. Rocky Weyr might be uncanon in the Pern Universe, but we don't want neon pink, purple polka-spotted dragons flying about.
- Be realistic with causes. If you wish, you are free to use one of the causes mentioned in the poll, otherwise get creative!
- Follow the general anatomy of Pernese dragons. This means headknobs, wings, forked tails, four legs, etc. These sport colors are coming from Pernese dragon stock, not a mad scientist's lab (though you can use that as a cause ;3).
- Please don't steal another weyr's color. Trust me, I think I'll be able to find it. I've been to many weyrs, and I've stalked many a site. At least try to be original in your creations.
- Have fun! Kekeke. Yes, that was cheesy.
- There is a limit of three (3) sport colors that a single member can make. Pick the best of the best when you're submitting your entries! You may edit/delete/add entries up until the deadline.
Prizes- First Place: The honor of having your candidate Impress the color that you have created! You may pick the candidate, but we will decide when they Impress.
- Second Place: A firelizard egg for any color of your choice, for any character.
You can enter, by posting in this thread, with the following code, filled out. Color: Otherwise the name of the new breed. Cause: What's the cause for this new color? Genetic malformation? Sands conditions?
Gender: The gender of the dragon. Male, female, both, neither? If it comes in more than one gender, please include gender ratios as well.
Size: In feet, keeping within general ranges of Pernese dragons. Include length from nose to tail tip, as well as height at the shoulder.
Personality: What's the basic personality of this color?
Appearance: This includes the various shades the dragon comes in, as well as any markings that may be distinct. Hex codes are greatly appreciated, but not required.
Impresses: What gender and sexuality to these dragons Impress? Homosexual females? Bisexual males?
Fertility: Are they fertile/infertile? If female, what are the clutch sizes? If male, about how many eggs would they sire? Rises/Chases: How often to they Rise? Chase? What to they Chase? What Chases, if female? The deadline is July 28th, 10 days from now.

Just as a little note, there is no copyright on color names. Yes, you can use the color black. That doesn't mean you're copying another weyr. Only if the color you create is a near-exact copy of another weyr's color, will that color be disqualified.
Also, yes, the deadline is pushing it. If you feel you need more time, I am open to the possibility of extending it, so speak, or forever hold your peace.

Color: Tiger-- the dragon is a dull brassy color with tiger-like darker stripes running down it's hide. Cause: X-ray radiation caused mutation of the color-producing genes, resulting in a bi-color dragon. Gender: Can be either male or female: Female-40% of the time can be female Male- 60% of the time can be male. Size: 10 feet at the shoulder, with head a half-foot to foot above that. From nose to tail-tip is 18 feet long, though this occasionally differs. Appearance: the Tger dragon's main shade is anything from an orangey-golden color, without the shine, to a dull brassy shade. occasionally more of a brownish shade. the stripes are not actually black, but rather a darker form of the base color. The stripes are tiger-style stripes, but they do not always cover the whole body. Often, the face is plain, without markings, or the stomach and chest do not have markings. Tiger dragons have a lighter build than a brown, but not the quick and sleek shape of the green or blue. Their wings are a bit longer than most dragons, and are usually a lighter shade than the body color. Impresses: Male Tiger dragons impress to male candidates of heterosexual or BI orientation, while female Tigers impress females of any orientation. Fertility: the female Tigers tend to be Infertile, but if they somehow are fertile, they only clutch about 7 eggs. Male Tiger dragons are occasionally 'sport' dragons--meaning they, like whites, do not chase. If a male Tiger Chases and Catches, they can sire up to 10 eggs, usually no more than 12. Rises/Chases: Females rise at the same rates as most greens do. Chasing, males do not chase golds, usually, but tend to try to chase greens, and they catch about as often as blues do. Personality (four words): ((im adding this for me )) the females tend to be as vain and flirty as greens are, usually impulsive or inquisitive, can be demanding. the males are proud and thoughtful, contemplative but also occasionally bad-tempered. -------------------------- Color: Fools' Gold (aka 'pyrite'?) Cause:Egg left unbueried on the sands for too long, and the cold affected the color of the dragonet's skin. Gender: Male Size: 22 feet at shoulder, 20 feet long from nose to tail-tip. Personality: the fool's gold dragon is often grumpy, being of nasty temper and easily provoked. they are proud and domineering, controllign and testy. But they also have a loving or fatherly side, usually only shown towards a mate/female or Their Bonded. Appearance: mutated from the brown color, the fool's gold dragon is a khaki to sandy color, with a slight shimmer to it. they have the build of a brown as well, with a heavier build and are not as agile fliers as blues. The chest and stomach hide is delicate sometimes, also dues to the time spent cold. Impresses:Ususally Males of any orientation, occasionally tomboyish or homosexual females. Fertility: Fertile. They can sire up to 15 eggs, sometimes more, depending on the female. Rises/Chases: Chase greens, tend to have a harder time catching them than blues, because of less agileness. Large fool's gold dragons will occasionally try to Catch a small gold. ----------------------------------------- Color: Shadow // Ebony (whichever sounds better...) Cause: Environmental-- the cold weather and temperatures of the rocky mountains; the parent dragon is suseptible to this cold weather, without knowing it, but it does not affect the parent dragon. then the dragon mates, has a clutch, and one of the baby dragons inherits a mutation randomly caused by the temperature. This would also happen if the mother was in cold air right while the eggs were inside her, thus they went from coldness to heated sands, and the suseptible baby mutated in terms of color, only. Gender: Neither-- similar to the White, these dragons are neuter, uninterested in mating at all. but their thought-voices usually sound feminine. Size: 24 feet long from nose to tail tip by 15 tall at the shoulder. Personality: Impulsive, playful, determined; they do not give up easily. curious sometimes to the point of foolishness, meaning they sometimes stick their muzzles where they are not welcome. not one for siting about doing nothing, they like to be up and about all day long. Appearance: These dragons are a dark, dark gray to a light black color, with a glossy sheen to their hides. on their extremities, the color fades or darkens. they can be black with lighter 'points' or gray with black points, but that 'waxed' sheen is ever-present, especially when wet. Their skin is also smooth, and slippery when oiled or wet. They are, in build, similar to browns, but with a slightly more elongated and lean figure. Impresses: Ebonies (or shadows?) have a mind of their own when impressing, because they will usually ignore both gender and orientation when searching for their lifemate-- they tend to choose the human who is most well-matched to their personality. This means: females and males of any age group and any orientation. Fertility: They are infertile, being Neuter (sports) and do not rise nor chase. Rises/Chases: not at all. not rise or chase.

Color: Black Cause: Genetic anomaly affecting color and sexual development. Blacks mutate from browns.
Gender: Female, but do not rise
Size: 32-35 feet long, 10-12 feet at the shoulder.
Personality: Blacks have an obsession with eggs and hatchlings...any clutching female is likely to have to chase them from the Sands, as they will keep offering to 'help'. Blackriders may find their dragons pressuring them to apply for a position as Candidatemaster or Weyrlingmaster. (Or to have their OWN children). Blacks do not rise to mate and do not appreciate...or even really understand...sexual desire. As long as their obsession is kept under control, though, they are solidly reliable dragons, and often make good Wingseconds.
Appearance: Solid black, sometimes shading to brown or slate grey in places. Extremely matte color. Blacks are about the same size as browns, but more slender in both body and wings, and quite obviously feminine to the practiced eyes. They tend to be particularly elegant dragons.
Impresses: Any gender or sexuality, but more likely to choose women.
Fertility: Infertile Rises/Chases: Do not rise
Color: Red Cause: Excessive damp while on the Sands.
Gender: Both, 70% male, 30% female
Size: 12-14 feet long, about 6 feet at the shoulder
Personality: Reds are loving, affectionate and extremely hedonistic. Woe betide the red rider who neglects bathing and oiling, because they will never hear the last of it...and for some reason, reds have better memories than most dragons. Not like whites, but up there with metallics. Male reds tend to chase often, female reds can be as flirty as greens, but once they have a mate, they tend to try and keep him...a red's previous mates have a high advantage in her flights. Reds are extraordinarily protective of their riders, especially as weyrlings, and some red hatchlings actually experience separation anxiety.
Appearance: Any shade of red from almost pink through to burgundy. Females are lighter than males in both color and build, but males tend to be smaller overall. Reds tend to have short wings and long tails and to be extremely agile, even more than their small size would indicate...red riders often need stronger fighting straps.
Impresses: Females to females, males to males
Fertility: Restricted fertility. Females lay one or two eggs and often have 'dud' flights. Males, if they catch a fertile green, are likely to produce no more than three eggs.
Rises/Chases: Females rise about every six months and are likely to be caught by male reds, blues, occasionally a brown. Males only chase female reds and greens (unless other small sports are introduced).
Color: Granite Cause: Genetic mutation of a blue causing restricted pigmentation and giantism...granites are not just larger, but have broader wings and larger talons and heads than they should, somewhat out of proportion.
Gender: Male
Size: 36 to 40 feet long, 11 to 13 feet at the shoulder
Personality: Granites are, after all, mutated blues, and they tend to take blue traits to an extreme. Many blues are shy: Most granites are reclusive to the point of appearing to have social anxiety disorder, preferring to spend much time on their own. Blues are quiet, many granites might go days without bespeaking their rider. Were it not for their size, one might forget they were there. Despite being at least as large as bronzes, granites do not seek...or choose riders likely to seek...leadership positions. Size alone does not a wingleader make, and for a granite to rise to any ranking position would be highly unusual. Granites do not handle stress well, additionally, although they will be brave enough if asked to fight...they tend to vanish (sometimes literally going Between somewhere *else*) if faced with arguments, confrontations and difficulties.
Appearance: Dull grey flecked with patches of blue. Disproportionately large head and talons, unusually broad wings. Shade may approach white or black at either end of the scale, blue flecks and patches tend to be very dull and matte.
Impresses: As blues in their preferences...most commonly to men, sometimes to women, and those women tend to be more masculine.
Fertility: Fertile. Males would sire about fifteen to twenty eggs on a gold, maybe five or so on a green. (Or as a brown, if that makes more sense)
Rises/Chases: Chase as blues, but will chase any females, although they rarely, if ever, catch greens...their odd proportions tend to make them clumsy and awkward in the air.
(OOC: Phazzy, are we not supposed to include personality basics, or did they get forgotten by accident?)

((Throwing in an idea though it's hardly stunning/original. I just LIKE these colors and wanted to find a reason/way to use them. ~ Thanks Phazzy~ Still the sizes might be off, but I think the comparison to the standard canon colors should be good enough to get an estimate.))
Color: Platinum Cause: A peculiar form of Leucism (A lack of pigmentation of ALL types; genetic anomaly due to a recessive gene mutation not normaly able to act as a dominant gene on Pern.)
Gender: Male (offset of Bronzes in Particular)
Size: The range of any Bronze, though they tend to be even somewhat larger than most bronzes, ranging up along the scale of small to average sized Golds. 40-55 feet in length, 12-16 feet at the shoulder.
Personality: Noble and proud; they see themselves as superior to their brassy cousins the bronzes and far superior to the chromatic colors. Still, they tend to act the part of Knights or paladins; justice-oriented, fair, and with a righteous sense of chivalry and order. (They just happen to have a streak of pride in them.) Sensible and level-headed unless angered, with a hot temper that tends to incite a need for dominance (not violent; just a need and want to be in control or in a position of power or command) in them and their riders. They make good wingleaders/weyrling trainers.
Appearance: Platinum dragons fall in any range of metallic gray to bright shining silvery platinum. The common range is any shade akin to polished metal. Most tend to be a shiny but rather deep and darker color of silver, much along the color of polished iron or steel, but all have a brilliant sheen to their skin. There is no mistaking them for anything but a metallic dragon. They on occasion have tints of blue or deep brown in their hides, making them any color from any shade of standard grey to nearly any range of blue-steel or brown-gray under the silver-grey. The metallic sheen to a platinum's skin is always present, but a dark-toned Platinum can have an appearance less to polished silver and more to burnished metal.
Bulid-wise they tend to be along the same build as bronzes, though most tend to have rather regal-looking profiles with a high-arched thick neck, strong jawline, a deep chest and thick limbs like a war horse. Their neck ridges are more prominent than any other color, and their headknobs slightly shorter and thicker. They have a peculiar way of standing when at ease, forelegs together and one hind leg bunched underneath them and the other stretched back. ((For reference, see the odd posture of a german shepard breed of dog.))
Impresses: Platinums generally impress males of the Heterosexual variety, but unlike Bronzes, they will also be willing to impress a female if the woman is of a strong personality. They base their choice less upon gender and sexuality and more upon a personal code of honor. If the female (or male) is strong of heart and has a bold and brave soul, even homosexuality will not bar impression.
Fertility: Fertile; sire between four to eight eggs at a clutch, but rarely will they sire anything but a metallic color or browns and blues. Clutches tend to be Male-heavy. Rises/Chases: They will ONLY chase a Metallic female. Even to releive 'tension' they will NOT chase a chromatic female. ~~~~~~~~~~
Color: Silver Cause: A peculiar form of Leucism (A lack of pigmentation of ALL types; genetic anomaly due to a recessive gene mutation not normaly able to act as a dominant gene on Pern.)
Gender: Female
Size: The general size of a gold in height at shoulder, but tend to be longer and sleeker than golds. Still, there is a great variety in size, with some silvers being as small as young browns while others are easily able to almost match the Great Ramoth in size. 25-60 feet in length, 10-15 feet at the shoulder.
Personality: Silver dragons are kind, quirky, and mercurial in temperament. They flit between emotions quickly, and are less of the leader-type than Golds. They make excellent mothers when they have a clutch hardening (though they sometimes grow annoyed by being forced to slow down or be confined in the sands), but when the dragonets are hatched a Silver is glad to be rid of them. They are energetic and fast. Their swift tempers and sharp wit easily bleed into their riders, and they bond very deeply with their chosen human partners. A silver will almost never be completely away from their rider, and they're very nosy, and one chosen by a silver can expect to have every detail of their life commented upon.
Appearance: Silvers are bright metallic dragons, obviously, mostly silver. There is little variation, and most are a pale silver color, ranging from standard sterling to bright almost-white silver. There is rarely an undertone to them, but on occasion a silver might display a slightly tarnished color to their hide, as if with an undertone of green, occasinally pale blue, or lavender and purple. Still, they all display a brilliant shine to their hides, and all reflect light as if they were made of liquid metal.
They are built less like their gold sisters and far more like a female version of the blue other than their size. They are sleek and lean, with long falcon-like wings, long, very flexible tails, and a high waist and long limbs much like a sighthound. Their headknobs are slightly elongated in comparison to most other colors, and the have longer and slimmer necks. Their muzzles are also slightly longer, and they have smooth faces, with a less pronounced eyeridge and forehead line.
Impresses: They are very likely to impress bisexual people of either gender. The silvers care little between males and females, instead prefering an open mind, a free spirit, and a happy and wild personality to match their own. Of course, they are entirely open to homosexual or heterosexual males or females, but there is never a guarantee that orientation will be permanent due to the flighty and sometimes contradictory nature of the dragon.
Fertility: Fertile; Clutch size between eight to sixteen eggs, up to twenty if caught by a metallic male. Clutches tend to be mixed in hatchling color, no matter the suitor (though a metallic male will generally sire a clutch with a higher ratio of metallic eggs than a clutch sired by a blue or a brown.) Rises/Chases: Silvers rise, on average, two to three times a year. They are generally chased by any available male. Larger silvers are generally caught by metallics or browns, but the smaller silvers prefer blues or browns. In flight they are impressed by males who can keep up with their aerial acrobatics.
NOTE: Silvers and Platinums are the SAME genetic anomaly. However, it tends only to occour in metalics, and the range of shade and coloration between the colors (and the very strict gender split) caused them to be classified (as golds and bronzes are) as two separate colorations. Silvers are entirely female and Platinums their male (aka Bronze) counterpart.
The genetic mutation ONLY effects bronze and gold eggs, so they are in effect a sub-metallic sport color that could only occur on Earth due to the recessive quality of the gene that triggers the coloration, normaly kept dormant or hidden because of some particular environmental agent that rendered Silver/Platinum eggs infertile/dead on Pern before they could ever hatch.
((So that's kind of why I reference them together.))

Color: Storm Cause: These dragons might have been once bronze or gold dragons in the making, but radiation and offset heat from the Sands bleached them of there more bold colors. Gender: Both female: 20% male: 80% Size: I'm using this size chart. Length: roughly 35 to 47 feet Height: roughly 14 to 18 feet Personality: Serious, Hardworking, Strict, Protective Appearance: Eggs are a lighter color than most eggs, and often have some sort of white marking no the surface to give the color of its dragonet away. Their hides are cool, clear shades of grey and silver, often seeming metallic in shades. Their backs are the darkest part of their hides. Their wings are the lightest part of their bodies, at least where the bones are not. Tracing their wing bones are swirls of a darker grey that is almost as dark as the main part of their body, if not the same shade. Paws are almost as light as the wings and goes darker as the shade travels up the legs, often in a swirling pattern. The tail is just like this, the fork lightest but goes draker farther up the tail until in melds into the cohesive shade of the main area of the body. The neck and head had a complex series of shades that travel and then meld into the shades of the rest of the body. The headknobs are light, while the rest of the head is dark; The lighter hide pools around the headknobs before braiding themselves together and twining down the neck. The color t=then travels along the should bones and onto the wings. Where the light meets dark, the same swirling pattern that can be seen on the legs and tail is seen. Examle: Body: #404040, Wings: #c7c7c7, Wing bones: #8c8c8c; Headknobs/etc.: #c2c1c1Impresses: They usually prefer to Impress heterosexual or bisexual male or female Candidates. hey are not particular to genders. Fertility: fertile Female: Clutch sizes are usually rather small, not exceeding the ammount of seven or eight eggs at once for the larger of these. Male: As sires, they will fertilize no more than twelve eggs at once. Rises/Chases:Females rise starting at about the age of eighteen months, and after that about once every eighteen months. Sometimes they might skip this cycle, depending on the play of their moods, weather, and food, as well as some other minor factors. Due to their larger size, mostly only brown and the bronze dragons Chase them. Blues are far to small to even consider trying. Males are able to Chase at the age of fourteen months, and can afterward Chase whenever they are provoked and willing to Chase. They will Chase greens, but usually only the bigger ones if aything, as well as Golds when they are given the chance. ____________________________________________________ ((Yes, I know, Rosegolds on Red River Weyr. But I added my own touches, such as personality, size, fertility, and appearance (in parts), among other things.)) Color: Rose Cause: The sole reason for this new color is that the eggs these particular dragons came from were not fortified like most eggs are. In other words, the shells were thinner, letting in both more chill and heat at once, causing a rather unpleasant mix in the membrane encasing the dragonet inside. Gender: Female Size: They are about the size of common blues, perhaps a little bigger. Length: roughly 28 to 37 feet Height: roughly 8 to 12 feet Personality: Quiet, Shy, Logical, Kind Appearance: Eggs are actually impossibly big, and ironically they are the few and the proud, a Gold's Gold egg. The eggs that produce the Rose dragonets are unnusually thin, allowing an unpleasant mix of air to both heat and cool the membranes inside, stunting the growth of the would be queen dragon. The color of the dragonets produced from such eggs are a rosy light pink color, usually mixed with a little golden tint. but the color isn't the only thing that made the new colored dragons to be named the Roses. It is the pattern in the color. Covering their back and outlines of the bones in their wings are a scaled, layered pattern much like those of a newly bloomed rose. The color fades away on the underside of the dragonet, as well as the legs, neck, head, and tail. And the main part of their wings. example: Main color: #e88064; Pattern outline: #e86764Impresses: In this regard, they are adamant in the news that they will only Impress a heterosexual female. Fertility: Fertile The clutch size is not more than three or four eggs at once due to their small size, but they have the amazing ability to clutch Golds, Bronzes, other Roses, and Browns. Rises/Chases: They follow their mothers in this, and Rise only as often as a Gold might. Blues and browns mostly Chase them, but a ronze might feel inclined to join a Flight. ____________________________________________________ Color: Amethyst Cause: The cause for this color is generally unknown, but widely believed that it had something to do with radiation of some sort. Gender: Female Size: Roughly the size of a Brown. Length: roughtly 34 to 40 feet Height: roughly13 to 18 feet Personality: Rambuncious, Hyperactive, Obsessive, Shallow Appearance: The eggs that house the dragonets for a time before they hatch are the average eggs. The difference and newness of the color is not shown until the newly hatched dragonet steps free of the remains of the shell and shows herself. The dragon will be shaped like any other, save for the color and pattern displayed on her hide. The hide's shade will be anywhere from a dark plum color to light red wine color to a lavender shade. The pattern is also strange. Lines and angles are etched into smooth and soft hide in a darker or lighter shade of the main color, giving emphasis to the name dubbed to them: Amethyst. They appear as Amethyst statues, clear and smooth cut. Amethysts are, of course, a purple gemstone. That is the reason the name was borrowed. example: main color: #9d209d; pattern outine: #be79be or #4d0a4dImpresses: These dragons are not particular when it comes to the gender and sexuality they Impress. They will Impress whoever suits them, no caring whether or not it is male or female, or the sex of whoever suits them. Fertility: The fertility of these dragons are rather awkard. They will be furtile for only one flight in their entire life, and the time of this flight is completely unknown until it happens. The size of the clutch birthed during this one flight is anywhere from 5 eggs to 20 eggs at once. Rises/Chases: They rise in the same pattern as Green's do, once every season. Due to their "right in the middle" size, males of all colors Chase them.

Color: Yellow Cause: The foreign chemicals introduced into the dragon's blood stream through medication proved harmless to the adult, but proved to have adverse effects on the hatchlings that the adult produced. Too be more specific, the pigmentation of the Green that the Yellow would have become was merely pushed back and subdued by the stronger melanin shade in the Green hide until it was a complete different color.
Gender: Strictly Female
Size: - Length: 15-20 Feet - Height: 6-8 Feet
Personality: (This is the most common description. There are black sheep in any flock.) Like the Green that the Yellow came from, the Yellow is very flirty and unabashed. She will flaunt and try to catch your eye. Yellow are about as motherly as Greens, maybe even less so.
Appearance: The Yellow has no distinct markings that set it apart from any other of the other colors. It has the ability to have birth markings, but as a color the Yellow shares no hide properties. The shades of the Yellow range from a burnt and darker color to a bright and vibrant color. Their shades do not enter a light and subdued color because of the powerful melanin that was used to create the Yellow.
Impresses: The Yellow Impresses to homosexual men or bisexual men with submissive natures. The Yellow also Impresses to women of any sexuality.
Fertility: The Yellow is semi-fertile, but their clutches are small (about three to five eggs) with high chances of duds. Only one to two eggs ever hatch because of the mother's lack of protective instinct. If the Yellow happens to be more motherly than most or is forced to watch after her eggs by her rider then it is possible for all eggs to hatch although it is still uncommon.
Rises/Chases: The Yellow Rises every three months, but the likelihood of fertilization is only around forty percent. The Chasing colors are overwhelmingly Blue with the occasional Brown. Bronzes will never chase.
