Character Profile
Name: Garrik Reed
Age: 20, born June 3 1991
Gender: Male
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Rank: Wherling
Weyr: Rocky
Appearance: Somewhat lanky and thin, but he has an easy confidence with his body. Although he is still gaunt from his stay in the Rocky infirmary, he's stronger than he seems.
Picture:
Base Personality: Though Garrik was never around people for very long, he is easy-going and light-hearted. Definitely the friendly type, but not very confident around women. The only females he knew were his mother, Emily, and the girls around his age in the town. Despite his uncertainty around women, he always gives it his best shot at making friends, male or female.
He had always been more of a night owl, but being so young, his parents more dictated when he would rise and when he would sleep. And until his trek through the Rockies, the sun never really bothered him.
History: Garrik never really knew his family, though he could remember his parents' faces. But, whenever he tried to ask a friend of the family about the mysterious disappearances of Emily and Jack Reed, he never received a straight or definite answer. In fact, they seemed almost scared to answer him...why? Then again, the town had always been superstitious, and his pale hair and dark eyes didn't help his cause at all. Not when everyone else was dark haired and light eyed.
At the age of eleven, shortly after his parents' disappearances, he decided to set out to find them. By thirteen, he still hadn't found anything, but had decided he preferred living by himself. Even if he did return to his hometown in Washington, he'd just be sent to a foster home or something, and that was unacceptable in his eyes.
He was fifteen when he reached Montana, and he still had found nothing about his parents. He heard rumors of something being built in the Rockies while he had to take a few days to recover fom a badly twisted ankle, but disregarded it. There was always something being built, why would something in the Rockies be important?
While travelling through the Rocky mountains, he started having to take more and more breaks from searching due to injuries from roughing it in the mountains. And he started travelling more at night, the sun's glare suddenly extremely irritating to his eyes. Granted, he had always preferred the night to the day, but the sun had never bugged him this much. Maybe it was the clarity of the air in the mountains...?
Due to the suddenly frequent breaks in his journey, Garrik was starting to doubt if he'd ever find any sign of his parents or how they disappeared. That was not long after the snow started flying. He knew how dangerous it was to travel the mountains in winter, let alone on a winter night, but he had been too distracted by errant thoughts to stop until it was safer to travel.
Shivering and cursing the cold, he followed shifting shadows, shadows that always managed to stay just out of his range. Hypothermia was about to set in when he stumbled upon the Weyr, and the first creatures he caught sight of were the whers. He thought they were the most amazing creatures, not even seconded by the mighty dragons. And though he refused to believe his parents were dead, he had no proof they were alive after ten years of searching...perhaps Weyr life couldn't be so bad, right?
Weyr life wasn't that bad, thankfully for him. Not long after being allowed to leave the infirmary, he was given permission to stand at golden Samarsk's clutch, sired by bronze Iggesk. There, he impressed blue Garrisk in April 2011, which gave him a rather large incentive to stay.
