August 2004, Midday It was midday, just after a light afternoon meal, and Faizah could be found in the kitchen. She had adapted well to Pern life as a Candidate, but was beginning to miss the luxary of the internet. Faizah swept her hand across her face in weariness when her gold firelizard came from between, humming like a mad flitter. More than a few heads went up, then the Pernese Candidates went running off. Even Manora, the headwoman, was bustling about. When she passed by Faizah, still confused as could be as her gold circled around her, she blanched. "By Faranths egg, whatre you still doing here! Get dressed and to the sands! Ramoth's eggs are hatching." Manora pushed Faizah from the kitchens with bodily force. Faizah stood in a daze outside the kitchens for a moment. When the gold pulled her ponytail of dark red hair and then sped towards their room, Faizah followed. It took her next to no time to change. By that time the halls were filled with what seemed to be a sea of white clad candidates. Faizah was thusly swept to the sands by the crowd.

Lessa, my eggs are hatching. Come quickly.
Instantly, Lessa's head shot up, eyes wide and looking around. I am coming, Ramoth dear. Standing, the Weyrwoman pushed aside the scrolls she was pouring over, and made a bee-line for the hatching sands, her diminutive stature slipping between the mass of people also heading to attend the hatching. While she didn't get the recognition that she deserved as Weyrwoman, Lessa made it to the sands in record time, all the while filling in clueless candidates and residents on the way.
You have called the candidates, right? Lessa asked the gold, running up the steps to situate herself in the spectator stands. She leaned over the edge of the railing, looking down at the cream-colored eggs on the sands. Here and there, a few rocked, and Lessa glanced over at the golden form of her dragon Ramoth, tenderly nosing one of her smaller eggs.
I'll call them now. The gold gave her egg one last push into the proper spot, then righted herself, turning her head around to give Lessa a look. Ramoth stopped her humming to let out a bugle, as well as sending to all the candidates of her clutch, My eggs are hatching! Hurry to the sands, candidates! Finished with that, Ramoth settled back down to sit proudly, with her neck arched elegantly, and wedge-shaped head overlooking the sands.
The Queen's call to the candidates was a surprising one. Sartana jumped, nearly cutting his finger on the knife he was cleaning. The boy's head whipped around to lay eyes on everyone else in the kitchens. The Earth girl had a gold firelizard that had come in from between moments earlier, humming and flying around. That was the first signal. Sartana should have been running out of there by now, but he felt and obligation to finish his chores... He wasn't going to protest with the Queen dragon though.
In a flash, the candidate had the knife cleaned off and put away, and was out of the kitchens in a heart-beat. The robe, the robe--he needed to get that one. Tradition said so. The sands could wait, and the eggs weren't going to all hatch while he was changing. Darting into his room, Sartana pulled the white candidate robe off of the rack, and changed into it in record time. Kicking off his boots, Sartana slipped his feet into the sandals provided, and was out the door moments after.
Running through the hallway, his long brown hair billowing out behind him, Sartana skidded around corners and was on the sands. Breathing heavily, he bent over, hands on knees, and tried to catch his breath. That was probably a stupid idea, running. He probably had plenty of time... At least he was on time, at least he was there. Being his second standing, he had to be a role model for the younger candidates that were standing. Determined to do that, Sartana stood up straight, arms at his sides, and walked forward so that he joined the half-circle of candidates around the clutch.

Mnementh perked up from his wallow as he heard his mate bugle. He knew what that meant and calling out to His, he said, Ramoth's eggs hatch. We are needed. Mnementh informed His. He then got up and got ready to jump down from their weyr and wing his way over to the Hatching Sands.
F'lar had been busy checking up on reports for Thread and quite forgot that Ramoth's clutch of eggs would hatch soon. Putting out the reports out of the way so that they don't get accidentally thrown away, F'lar scrambled up Mnementh and took a seat in-between Mnementh's neck ridges. Since they would only be going to the Hatching Sands, F'lar didn't bother with having Mnementh wear Riding Gear.
Mnementh barely used his wings and mostly glided down from their weyr to the Hatching Sands. Depositing His to the ground, Mnementh made his way in the sands near his mate. He would like to see what dragons would hatch from their recent mating.
F'lar slide down Mnementh and made his way up the Spectator Stands. He saw Lessa was already seated in their reserved place. He sat next to her in companionable silence although he knew that there were probably a bunch of things that Lessa would be worrying about.
Ashura heard Gold Ramoth's call and like all the Candidates, hurried back into their barracks to get their Candidate Robes. Having been assigned to clean the latrines, Ashura had some ways to go and upon reaching his barracks rummaged through the chest where the Candidate Robe was hidden. He didn't have time to change into sturdy wherhide boots so he made do with the sandals that he wore. He just hoped that he didn't have to stand in the sands too long that he'll start to burn a hole in his foot. He made a hastry retreat out of the candidate barracks and flat out ran towards the Hatching Grounds. As he reached the entrance into the Sands, he saw the Candidatemaster scowling at him at his rather unkempt appearance. Ashura just shrugged since he couldn't do anything about it. He had to come dashing to the Sands or he might be late for the Hatching.
Upon setting foot on the Sands, he immediately felt the heat emmenating from underneath and he started to jiggle from foot to foot so are not to burn his feet. When he neared Gold Ramoth and her mate, Bronze Mnement, Ashura gave a respectful bow to both dragons. He also gave a bow towards the stands where the Weyrwoman and Weyrleader were situated. Then, he took his place beside another Candidate and waited for his dragon to Impress on him. Even though he was a Weyrbrat, this would be his first Hatching where he had been allowed to Stand, and he was very excited as he alternately hopped from one foot to the other.

Faizah was finally able to get out of the crowd when they reached the sands. Reyna was perched unmovingly on her shoulder, hiding herself from Ramoth. Faizah saw another Candidate bow to the dragons and then the weyrleaders. She followed his example.
She approached cautiously, bowing to the gold and bronze. Then she turned and bowed to Lessa and F'lar. Getting a nod from the Candidatemaster, Faizah joined theother women around the solitary gold egg. She doubted she would get the gold hatchling, but silently hoped she did. A green Impressed to her, frankly, terrified her for her own reasons.
Reyna had joined the dragons humming, but didnt leave her perch on Faizahs shoulders. Faizah stroked the flitters golden head, at the same time her attention going to the smallest egg there. She wondered what would hatch from such a tiny egg...

The candidates gathered, and Ramoth looked pleased with herself. The Searchriders had drawn in a number of eligible Pernese to Stand, including that one odd, Earthian female. With the gold firelizard that so annoyed Hers. Mnementh, the Queen greeted the bronze, the sire of her clutch. And if he was here, then His should be as well. Looking back at Lessa, Ramoth spotted the form of F'lar sitting next to her. Good.
Lessa glanced over at the bronzerider when he approached, having seen Mnementh sidle up to Ramoth. "Hello F'lar," she greeted the man, scooting closer to him, but crossing her arms as her brow furrowed and she stared down at one particular candidate. "Do you think she'll Impress?" the Weyrwoman asked, nodding with her head to indicate Faizah.
With the candidates mostly here, the hatching could start--it would start whether or not everyone was ready. Ramoth sat proudly, with her neck arched and regally overseeing her eggs, all of which twitched in the sunlight. She nodded in response to those candidates that bowed to her, and showed her and her eggs the proper respect. No sooner had she done that did some of her children start to break through the shells. For the luck of the weyr, a bronze hatched first, his glistening hide a reflection of his sire's.
Just as he went off to find his bonded, with a little encouragement from Ramoth, more eggs began to hatch, tiny arms and legs sticking out of their eggs. They hatch, the gold repeated, crooning softly to each of them.
Once he had reached the other candidates, Sartana was quick to step out in front of them, imitating the others as they bowed to Ramoth, the giant Queen. Slipping back into line, the eggs started to hatch, and not a moment too soon. A bronze, a little bronze was first. A smile spread on Sartana's face. Good luck for the weyr. That was always a good sign. This would be a good hatching, he was sure of it.
[ooc: Bleh. But there.]

F'lar inwardly smiled that Lessa chose to sit near his side. She wasn't normally a tactile person but F'lar could understand. At Lessa's question, F'lar looked over to the Candidate in question. He'd only been on Earth a few times so he didn't really have much of an opinion whether Candidates from Earth would make better Impressions than the regular Pern Candidates that they had. With a shrug of his shoulders, he said, "I don't know, Lessa. Like they always say, the Dragons choose the Rider. If there's a dragon for her in this clutch, then that dragon will Impress on her whether we want to or not." with a nod of his head.
Then his attention was caught by the hatching eggs and smiled as the first egg to hatch revealed a Bronze. Like all hatchings, F'lar could not help by reminisce the time that Mnementh had Impressed on him. He looked down over the eggs the better to see who the Bronze dragonet would choose from among the Candidates.
Mnementh nuzzled Ramoth as the Queen greeted him. And then, his attention was all for the eggs that have begun to hatch. Hearing Ramoth say 'They hatch.' Mnementh nodded in agreement as he said, Indeed. and watched to see a Bronze to be the first hatchling to hatch. A bronze hatched first. That is a good sign. Mnementh said as he wondered who the Bronze dragonet would Impress to.
Ashura stopped jiggling for a moment to watch entranced as the Bronze dragonet hatched from his egg. And as if the Bronze sent some signal, more eggs hatched but the heat from the sands was too much and Ashura once more focused on jiggling on his feet from left foot to right foot so that they wouldn't get burned. He did wonder who the Bronze would choose to Impress to as he waited and watched on the other eggs that have yet to hatch.

Faizahs head swung from the smallest egg to watch the little bronze hatch and Impress. The boy the bronze Impressed was a scrawny hold boy, barely fifteen years old with dark hair and dark eyes. She smiled at the shocked expression on his face.
Faizah looked back at the gold egg as it trembled. The other girls wer tightening the circle around the egg, and Faizah joined them. But her attention was only slightly on the gold egg. The rest was on the two eggs that had just hatched.
One had revealed an oddly proportioned blue while the other held a reddish brown that had already mauled one boy to reach the bulky fair haired boy he had Impressed. The blues wings were larger and his neck and tail longer. Otherwise he was a gorgeous cobalt color with a splotch of midnight blue between his wing joints.
Faizah vaguely wondered who that blue would Impress to. They would be a lucky person indeed.

Yes, a good sign.[/i] Ramoth's calm features stared down each of her eggs, her eyes shifting from one to the other as more of her children hatched. A blue and a brown, the latter of the two wasted no time in finding His bonded, while the blue was content with ambling on his own. Find Yours, go on,[/i] the gold encouraged the blue, nodding towards the candidates.
Next, a curious green hatched, finding more fun in inspecting the rocking eggs instead of checking out the candidates. A displeased snort from Ramoth sent her scooting backwards into another egg, helping a small but lean blue hatch. The two fell into a scramble as the green got her limbs entangled with the blue's. The blue dragonet was more calm, however, chirping and resisting the urge to struggle until he managed to pull himself away from his sister.
Standing proudly, the blue shook himself off, unfazed by the events, and daintily walking away from the green who decided to continue her investigation of the eggs. With the other blue still on the sands, both males had yet to Impress, and the younger of the two was pleased to wait until his brother had made his choice.
Lessa looked away from the dragonets to glance at F'lar while he responded to her question. "That's true. I'm not going to deny her a dragon if a dragon chose her. After all, we could easily deny her the right to Stand," Lessa finished with a nod. "... Rowdy dragonets. But a bronze first is good luck," the weyrwoman couldn't help but comment.

(( OOC: Well, Phazzy said it was okay to hatch a few eggs, so I did. )) Mnementh stayed silent as he watched his offspring hatch from their eggs and find theirs or just wander around the Sands according to their whim. From time to time, he would nod as if blessing a particular Impression that had occurred. F'lar nodded in agreement to Lessa's comment. But after a bit of silence, he asked, "What will you tell her if we deny her to Stand for the next Hatching?" He was interested in what excuse Lessa would come up with to deny the Earthian the right to stand for the next Hatching. He didn't really have anything against the girl, but... if Lessa didn't like her or Ramoth for that matter, who was he to defy their order if it came to that. Meanwhile in the sands, the green who had been investigating the sands, accidentally knocked over an egg which collided with another egg resulting in cracks that spread over both eggs. The former egg scattered eggshells everywhere a few of which managed to brush by the investigating green dragonet thereby injuring it. The impact shocked the green enough to cry out for Hers and one of the Candidates, a feminine looking boy, rushed over to her side and the pair moved away from the sands to where the Weyrlingmaster waited with buckets of already chopped meat to feed the starving dragonets. From the egg emerged yet another green, her hide dark with splotches of light green on her wing sails. She looked around her curiously, chirping a hello towards her mother but otherwise not moving from within her broken egg. The other egg that had cracked, split open in two and revealed a light brown with dark mahogany stripes on his tail and neck. This little one did not had to wait and was all business as he approached one of the lads and made his choice.
Ashura smiled wistfully at those Candidates that were chosen by the dragonets and joined the newly Impressed. He looked longingly at the dragonets that still haven't made their choices and wondered if one might be the dragon that would choose to Impress to him. While all this happened, he never stopped hopping from one foot to the other, in alleviating the burning heat that he felt through the sole of his sandals. He must look comedic to those in the Stands but he didn't care. All his attention was focused on the dragonets on the sands.

((Hatch and Impress anyone you like. There just has to be 4 bronzes.))
Faizah watchedthe eggs hatch, unashamed that her attention wasnt on the gold egg. Except for a few trembles the egg was mainly motionless. Even some of the other candidates were watching the hatching of the other dragonets.
Faizah chuckled to herself as she saw the clumsy green. A second green hatched, along with another blue. And as Faizah watched the cracked eggs hatched a green and brown. She smiled, then turned to watch two eggs hatch to reveal two more bronzes, slightly lighter in color than their father. They moved together, like mirror images, without seeming to notice it.
The gold egg cracked with a loud sound to accompany the action. Faizahs head snapped around so quickly she whipped herself in the eye. It watered for a moment, but she kept her attention on the egg until it was still again.

As the brown made his choice, three more eggs hatched simultaneously. One egg hatched to reveal a large blue dragonet. He was a light blue in color with midnight blue tiger stripes on his from the top of his head to the tip of his tail. He eyed stepped out of his egg regally like some king as he proceeded to clean himself.
The second egg hatched to reveal a very light green dragonet. She seemed rather weak and cried piteously for Hers. She was readily answered by one of the female Candidates who lovingly and gently helped the green out of her egg and the newly Impressed pair headed towards the waiting Weyrlingmaster and other newly Impressed pairs.
The third egg hatched to reveal another brown. He was one solid color of a very dark brown which was almost black in color. He stepped out of his shattered eggshell and looked about the Candidates. However, none on the Sands was up to his standard and started his way towards the Stands feeling out for His.
The blue had finally finished cleaning himself and now surveyed the Candidates arrayed in front of him. He ignored the females and concentrated on the males. Twice his head swept through the male Candidates until finally, his head settled on one lad. With a dignified air, the blue approached Ashura.
Stopping in front of Ashura, the blue said, As'ra-Mine, your Azreth is famished. May we please go and get something to eat? as he looked up at As'ra with his rainbow-colored swirling eyes.
Ashura was torn as to which dragonet he should watch to see who they would choose. He was so busy watching the others in fact that he didn't even know a dragonet had approached him until he heard a voice, not unlike his own, inside his head. Looking about with a confused look in his face, Ashura wondered who the voice came from.
Azreth seeing His' confused face said, I'm down here, silly As'ra-Mine. with laughter in the tone of his voice.
Ashura hearing the voice inside his head again, looked down into a pair of rainbow-colored swirling eyes. And as he looked, he was drowned in a love so deep that there was no way to measure it. He wondered how he had lived never having known the being that now stood before him for he knew that he would never be the same should anything happen to Azreth. With a loving caress on Azreth's wedge-shaped head, Ashura... that is, As'ra, as Azreth now called him, said, "I'm sorry for not noticing you earlier, Azreth. I know that you are hungry so why don't we go to where the Weyrlingmaster and the other newly Impressed pairs are waiting." as As'ra gestured towards the direction of the Weyrlingmaster.
As the hatching progressed, F'lar took note of the number of dragonets that so far have hatched and Impressed. He made a mental note to get to know the newly Impressed Weyrlings. However, for the most part, he remained silent in his seat as he watched the Hatching.
Mnementh like His was silently watching the Hatching as well and taking note of who his offsprings have chosen to pair with. He crooned a greeting to the other bronzes that have hatched and wondered who those would choose but so far haven't chosen anybody yet.
((OOC: By the way, how many are we supposed to hatch and Impress for this clutch? By the way, Faizah, do you want one of us to hatch Surth's egg and make him Impress to you? Or would you rather do that yourself?))
