I asked this in the cbox then fell asleep before getting an answer.
Are staff assigning defects to the new weyrlings, or are we supposed to come up with them ourselves?

Dragonets from Jadavath's clutch are highly unlikely to have defects. The only reason why a dragonet would need a defect is if the rider is Pernese, and we wanted to keep the dragon at Rocky. Otherwise they would be sent back home.
So as of now, the only dragonets with defects are those that have Pernese riders that members want to adopt. C:
