History: Adrian was born to Cosian and Allida, the Lord and Lady of Southern Hold. He was the pair's only son and heir to the Hold, so Cosian was incredibly proud and protective of him. To his dismay, when Adrian was only 14, a Search dragon came and requested that the boy try to Impress at Southern Weyr's next hatching. Cosian would have none of this, and shooed the rider away from the Weyr as quite as courtesy would allow. The experience of nearly loosing is only heir to the Weyr was frightening, and to safeguard his investment, the Lord never told his son about the conversation that transpired that day. Adrian was admittedly a bit disappointed at the swift departure of the rider, but his life went on as usual.
Over the next few years, Adrian was under his father's constant watch, and was involved in every single facet of the Hold. By the age of 18 he was fully prepared to begin taking a more prominent and important role in the Hold inner workings. As it happened, fate did not see a future as a Lord Holder for Adrian. Instead, he had the opportunity - after much pleading and bribing of his father - to attend a hatching at Southern Weyr. The event went smoothly for the first few minutes, until a bizarre creature hatched and startled the entire crowd. A blue, with.. two heads! It was not the first strange mutation that Pern had been seeing in the past turn or so, but it was certainly the first of its kind. Maybe it was because he was high up in the stands and wanted a better view, or because of some innate need to be closer to the creature, Adrian made his way quickly down to the ground level of the hatching sands. Not soon after that, to his great surprise and confusion, the two headed blue galloped over to him and nuzzled Adrian's legs with both his heads. He then told him, with big rainbow eyes, that his name was Maith, and he was dreadfully hungry.
Cosian was furious and, in the usual dragon-ignorant Holder fashion, demanded the mutated beast be taken away from his precious son. Now connected to Maith, the newly appointed A'ian tried to reason with his father, but in the end was forced to leave him and begin caring for his blue companion. Cosian was still irritable even when he got word that his son was to be transferred to the new Weyr on Earth, and didn't even say goodbye. Even so, as A'ian and Maith settled into their new home, news of a pregnant Allida was spreading around Pern and Cosian was far too preoccupied with the chance at another heir to be bitter about A'ian's situation.
