These following posts are the introductions for certain kinds of characters you might want to make. Each one is different, so please make sure you read the right one for any and all of your characters. If you have something else in mind for how your character arrived at Rocky Weyr, please PM it to Faizah, and she will decide if it's appropriate or not for the larger plot.
A curious site meets your eyes as you are walking nearby your home. Tucked away in a rather discreet location, you find a pile of sand. It had never been there before, and having a pile of sand just randomly sitting around in your neighborhood was definitely not the norm. Craning your neck to see what else might be there, you find an egg. A bird egg, most likely, but as you pick it up you find it feels a bit leathery as well. A reptile then? Either way, it is very much alone and it now has your smell on it, so you figure you should take it home.
A few days later the egg has hatched and a small dragon-like creature has emerged and is constantly screaming at you for food. Its strange bug eyes glow with all kinds of colors but you instinctively know what it’s feeling. Depending on how well you were able to conceal your new friend, it might have taken the general public a number of months to notice, but they find out eventually. You, your family, and your little dragon are now all over the local news.
A stranger comes to your house soon after the news breaks, asking to talk to you about your creature. People have been wanting to see it and ask you about it for days, so you comply. You walk with the man down the block, your dragon on your shoulder, and as he introduces himself as F’lar, another little dragon appears above your heads and lands on his outstretched forearm. He explains to you why he is there and asks you to come with him to meet the other people from around Earth who have acquired firelizards; as he quickly identifies the creature’s proper name. Running back home you make up some excuse for your parents and leave with F’lar.
The two of you go by public transportation - your firelizards following from above - and you arrive at the most remote location on the outskirts of your town. A large grassy field is covered with huge, white, tents that make you think of a circus, and stepping into one of them your pretty sure you weren’t too far off. Enormous dragons, one hundred times larger than your little companion, are nestled in the grass, firelizards fluttering about the air above them. Kids around your age from all around the world, it seemed, were chatting amongst themselves. F’lar quickly brought you over to the largest dragon sitting in the tent and its apparent rider, as you notice the straps and seat attached to the beast’s back.
F’lar introduces you to Lessa and her golden queen Ramoth. The pair explain to you a little more about the firelizards and dragons, and propose that you should come to Pern to try and Impress a dragon for yourself, since you already had a firelizard of your own. They give you some time to think it over, but you eventually agree, and are soon mounted with many of the others onto the backs of the dragons and between to Pern. Once there, you are given a room and a white robe with sandals, and the Headwoman prepares you for the hatching, expected for the following day.
The hatching has indeed begun just a day after your arrival and it turns out you’ve Impressed a dragon after all! You feel a completeness that you had never known before as you spend the next few days bonding with your new lifemate. Unfortunately, your dragon was born with a defect. Whatever it might be, it means that you and your beast could not be used to defend Pern, and you are quickly betweened back to Earth. Arriving in the heights of the Rocky Mountains, Kain and Faizah, your new Weyrleaders, are there to greet you and get you settled into your new home for the next few years.
