I’nao
Original Name: Ithiannao
Age: 27 years (Late Autumn -- December 5th, 1985)
Gender: Male
Sexual Orientation: Homosexual
Origin: Fort Weyr
Rank: Candidate Master
Weyr: Isle Weyr
Appearance: At first glance, I’nao could pass off as a heterosexual man. He stands tall at five foot nine, a good four inches above his lover, Keltin. He tends to alternate between a clean-shaven face and a bit of a scruffy chin. When he doesn’t shave, he could pass off as a straight man, and it isn’t uncommon for woman to flirt with him then. However, he’s completely and utterly gay, and already in a relation with his friend, Keltin. His dark-colored hair tends to grow out long, though he does not have a problem with cutting it short.
The way I’nao acts suggests something different. He has a distinctly feminine charm. He sways his hips as he walks, and when gesturing to people or objects, he delicately motions with his hand. His own interesting habit is to flip his hair when it gets into his eyes, which tends to be often, or push it behind his ear. Even his body shape suggests a womanly figure. He is twig-like, with long limbs and fingers, yet this bluerider has a distinct curve to his hips that could make his silhouette look like a woman’s.
He tends to dress in whatever suits his fancy, though he feels that clothing restricts his body. For that reason, he can and will go shirtless for as long as he can. In terms of clothing though, he tends to lean towards the form-fitting materials, especially those that show off his sleek form. On Pern, this was a bit of a problem for him, being restricted to tunics and riding leathers, though Earth has shown him a number of other styles that he finds to be very attractive, and can only hope that Keltin does as well.

History: Though he doesn’t know it, I’nao takes after his father. I’nao was born out of a failed Gold Flight, when his brownrider father took a random weyr resident to bed with him in his frustration. His father, I’nil (formerly Innillo), had a one night stand with his mother, Naotha, a young harper of sixteen turns. I’nil never saw Naotha again after that night, since a few days later, the harper moved out to Benden Weyr to study closer to Robinton. As it was with most of the woman that I’nil spent the night with, he wasn’t too worried about seeing her again--he didn’t even think she was that attractive.
Ten months and a couple of failed Flights later, I’nil was surprised to see Naotha back at Fort, and was even more surprised when she approached and openly slapped him. He asked what the reasoning behind that was, to which Naotha responded by showing him his month-old son, whom Naotha named Ithiannao. I’nil was assumed, and rightly so, to be the father on account of Naotha refusing to get into relationships with others, purely because she didn’t want a relationship to interfere with her harper studies. Naotha refused to care for the child, and only returned to Fort to hand him over to his father, who was unwilling to take in the infant Ithiannao.
The two unexpected parents managed to find another woman in the weyr to take care of Ithiannao, and raise him to be like her own son. As a result, I’nao does not know who his real parents are, and thus does not know how similar to his father he is. When a Flight is lost, I’nao does tend to look towards random residents to fulfill his needs (hence how he met Keltin for the first time), like his father did with women. I’nao also can be a flirty man, constantly looking towards the other men, homo or not, at the weyr, despite his dedication to Keltin.
Growing up, Ithiannao did spend most of his time at the weyr. He would play with the other weyr brats like a typical toddler, and like most of the weyr brats, he longed to be a rider. He was always the kind of child that would get into trouble, but his charm would usually get him out of it, making him very daring. From an early age, Ithiannao was attracted to men--he would spend time with the other boys, mostly because he longed to be close to them for a reason he couldn’t explain. When he neared his teenage years, Ithiannao would spend time near the girls, offering his own opinions on the boys around their age, much like a typical teenage girl would gossip with her friends.
Being raised in the weyr, Ithiannao didn’t have to be Searched to Stand at a hatching. He stood for two gold clutches at Fort before nearly giving up on Impression a dragon. His first time Standing left him hopeful a number of times when various dragonets walked near him, but didn’t Impress. The second time he Stood, he didn’t feel the same surge of hope for there wasn’t a single dragonet that looked his way. Feeling dejected, Ithiannao contemplated not Standing any longer, and seeing if he could go into the healer craft instead. He had dabbled a bit with the weyr’s healers, but his age, 15, made it fairly late to go into the craft.
He told himself he would Stand one last time, and it was that a month after his sixteenth birthday that he stood for his third hatching. During the hatching, a purple-y blue dragon hatched, and Ithiannao was taken at once: he adored that color, and longed for that dragon to be his. Much to his surprise, the blue with the odd markings approached him boldly, and complimented the young girlish man on his figure. Impression was made, and I’nao was instantly in love with his Zimanrath. They both were so similar that Zimanrath might as well have been a green dragon.
Going through weyrling training, I’nao didn’t display the usual troublemaker attitude that he had as a child, perhaps because he’d rather spend time with his blue than goofing off, but he was a good example for the other weyrlings, if you only looked at how he paid attention during the lessons. Even as a weyrling, he continued to chase after the men, going so far as to wink or silently flirt across the room during a lesson, when the weyrling master’s back was turned. Though he was easily distracted by the other young men in his weyrling class, I’nao managed to graduate to a rider in two turns.
The moment that Zimanrath hit sexual maturity, the loving bond between him and I’nao was solidified even more. The blue Chased after each green that he could, and would even join the other males at the feeding pens when a gold Rose. Though he never Chased gold, he did Chase nearly every green at Fort Weyr. Zimanrath hardly Caught the Rising female, and he would often get frustrated at this. While he retreated to hide in his weyr, I’nao would feel his dragon’s emotions as well, and would grab the first person that he saw, dragging them into an unoccupied quarters. I’nao would then satisfy his needs then and there.
This arrangement went on for one turn, and I’nao quickly built up a reputation of this. Residents made sure to steer clear of the rider when his dragon Chased, unless they didn’t care, then they wouldn’t mind if I’nao’s hand managed to grasp their wrist.
One night, everything changed. Zimanrath lost another Flight, and I’nao grabbed the youngest man he had ever stumbled upon--a holdless boy of thirteen turns of age by the name of Keltin. The boy, though young, was so much more mature for his age, and I’nao was taken aback by him. The two kept in touch for a few days, while Keltin was at Fort, and when the young man left with the rest of his group, I’nao was sad to see him go. Over the turns, I’nao always looked forward to seeing Keltin again, simply because of the pleasure that the younger man brought to him. However, I’nao quickly found that he enjoyed Keltin’s company, and the two became good friends.
When Keltin approached him one day, asking for a ride to Rocky Weyr--a Weyr on Earth, of all places--I’nao wasn’t about to say no to his best friend (apart from Zimanrath). His blue was able to pry the coordinates out of a dragon that had been there before, and with Keltin upon Zimanrath’s back, I’nao and the rest of the group went between. I’nao posed as a bluerider that was taking wher candidates to Rocky, knowing about a gold wher clutch there. I’nao had wondered why Keltin didn’t just stand for a dragon hatching, and Keltin has described how he was never selected when Searched. I’nao, though he was taking Keltin to Earth, he didn’t want to see his favorite plaything gone for turns on end.
I’nao managed to embarrass the poor younger man with his antics, and quick kiss on the cheek before he left, but he felt that life at Fort wouldn’t be the same without Keltin to look forward to. The sevendays after Keltin left were torture, knowing that I’nao wouldn’t be able to see Keltin for who knows how long. However, it wasn’t long before the bluerider was offered a chance to go back to Earth. The Fort Weyrleader approached him, and asked if he would like to go to Earth. I’nao jumped at the chance, instantly saying yes, much to the Weyrleader’s confusion, but he didn’t ask questions. Happily, I’nao ran off to get his belongings ready.
Little did he know that he wasn’t going to Rocky Weyr.
Zimanrath was given the coordinates for the weyr, and they went between. Upon arriving, I’nao noticed the place looked nothing like Rocky Weyr when they visited a little less than a Turn ago. Confused, the bluerider and his dragon were greeted by the weyrwoman and weyrleader of Isle Weyr. Learning that they were at Isle, I’nao felt distraught. He was so close, yet so far away to his lover. Instead of backing down from the chance to stay on Earth, I’nao took up his offered position of candidate master at Isle Weyr, determined to eventually see Keltin again.
Nickname: Zi
Color: Blue
Color Code: #7765ff
Impressed on: January 6th, 2001
Age: 11 years
Physical Description: Main [#7765ff ], Belly [#a9b7ff], Markings on Wing Sails [#cfc9ff], Socks [#3f2fb7 - #23177c - #120b4b - #090520], Dapple markings [#3b2c75], Stripes on Headknobs [#45337d]
Zimanrath is a colorful dragon. He has some of the most out-landish combination of markings a dragon could have. His main color is that of a purple-blue, and his belly is of a pale, off-white shade of blue. On his back, head, tail, shoulders, and hindquarters, a dapple-like pattern of dark purple splatter across his hide like a paintbrush waved in his direction. His legs have a complex shade of colors for his socks, starting from a dark purple on his forelimbs to a deep indigo to a near-black shade at the extremities of his limbs.
This blue’s muzzle looks similar to a bird’s beak in pattern, with a white shade on his snout. His headknobs have ribbons of purple that wrap around the headknob. On Zimanrath’s wingsails, there are spots, similar to stars in the sky of a pale purple, and on the trailing edges of the membranes, an odd pattern of spikes and points line the edge, in the same color of pale purple.
He is an average sized blue, though on the smaller end of the spectrum. Zimanrath reaches 26.5 feet in length. His hide is relatively unscarred, from turns of practice and careful flying, for both rider and dragon would hate to mar their beautiful skin. Zimanrath has nicely-honed muscles from constant use, and his anatomy is perfectly proportionate for a lean blue dragon that prefers to use agility and speed over power.
Dragon Defect/Injury: None
