A Broken Pern : Asesinato Weyr
Address: z10.invisionfree.com/Asesinato_Weyr/index.php?act=idx
Run by: Admin - December's Song
Activity level: Low as it is a completely new weyr.
Notes: An RP with an interesting plot twist, the affects of the meteor are seen in several new colors in both whers and dragons, including Diamonds and Smokes, Flames and Tanzanites, and there is a possibility of it continuing. Since we are new, a great deal of positions are open, including moderators, wingleaders, all ranking males, and several lesser Queens. There is also soon to be a clutch on the sands, so candidates are desperately needed.

Our History
Life on Pern was going surprisingly well. Sure Thread was expected to begin falling once more within the next one hundred turns or so, but the Dragonriders in all their mighty weyrs were prepared, ready for their ancient enemy to return. Since the past Fall they, and the Holds they guarded, had flourished. The weyrs grew and grew, expanding even across to the Western and Southern continents, their reach expanding with every turn that passed. In the South, five large, independent weyrs sprang up, from the mightiest Uru Weyr, to the smallest, Hyacinthe. This weyr, which will play a large part in Asesinato's history, was built high in the ice topped mountains of the deep South, surrounded by snow and wastelands, but fertile in rare minerals, gems, and most of all, firestone.
Everything seemed to be going extraordinarily well, the entire world prepared for the strike that was to come in the future, until a large burning ball appeared on the horizon, growing each day for months at a time. It wasn't the Red Star, but something new, something beautiful, and yet incredibly ominous. A Turn after the bright 'star' appeared, meteors began to streak their way through the atmosphere, complete with an entourage of burning, smaller meteorites. This wouldn't have been a problem usually, save these meteors were enormous in size, well capable of devastating any area they landed in. Three landed on the Northern continent, destroying most life there, one falling into the seas just off the Southern coastline, and two more striking the Southern continent directly. The North was nearly completely gone, the weyrs and their dragons lost in a blaze of fire, then followed by famine, and exhaustion as the remaining dragonriders and holders tried to survive the subsequent radiation.
The south was affected as well, the two sea-side weyrs drowned practically in their sleep by the swamping waves, and another burned and buried when the final meteor hit nearly in its weyrbowl, incinerating all inhabitants in a flash. The only true weyr left relatively unscathed, mostly by its position in the heart of the continent and surrounded by the cold mountains, was Hyacinthe. It took several days after the disaster for the first riders from Hyacinthe to be sent out as scouts, but they met with such devastation and disaster that none knew what to do, truly believing the entire world had been destroyed. One of these searchriders was a young junior weyrwoman, sent as an ambassador for any living dragonriders, but out of all the weyrs in the south, less than a hundred were left to answer her calls into the dark, and from the North, only silence, leaving many to believe it was gone completely. A later venture into the Northern continent would be needed, but for now Hyacinthe had to focus on its own struggles as one of the few remaining safe places, a haven for those who's lives had been shattered, doomed by falling stars. For months and even turns after, straggling people crawled to Hyacinthe for its protection, braving the ring of mountains and the fierce beasts, until the numbers began dwindling down to nothing... And then... thats when things started to get truly odd.
The young Junior Queen who had first led the expedition into the Lost Lands had Flown for the first time, and had laid her eggs upon Hyacinthe's sands, but something was... off... She could not tell her rider why several of the eggs seemed odd, strangely lumpy or oddly colored, but upon Hatching day, it soon became apparent that her time flying in and around the tainted areas left behind by the metors had somehow affected her, permananetly. This, of course, was not unexpected, save for that it happened to a dragon. Radiation affects were already becoming apparent in many of the humans that had fled to Hyacinthe, but this Gold was the first of her kind to actually lay eggs after having been in the same areas. As the few, scraped together candidates watched, a new era was born, strange ranks of dragons brought forth with every breaking egg. The first was a male, large as a bronze but so pale one could almost see his ichor-filled veins, silvery blue in color like the precious diamonds mined around Hyacinthe. Then came a pair of twins, a female with a midnight blue hide, her brother the color of the sky, each shimmering with moonlight or cream markings, and after them, a flame colored female, followed by a smokey dragoness, who's size and elegant bearing bespoke a Queen, no matter that she was not a Gold.
There were more, of course, more mutations, and not all were simply strange colors. Instead, twisted and malformed creatures also made their way from the eggs, most dying before they could Impress, though several made it. Bronze Hrajith the Wingless, first of the Grounded, Impressed to H'vas, a male who would become legend and create a new subspecies of dragon, though that is not for now... A two headed dragonet Bonded, and died moments later, another ripped itself to pieces in pain, and on and on the stories continued. For all the tragedy, the pain and waste, all the new colors proved strong and were welcomed at Hyacinthe, for they knew what the future was to hold. Thread would not stop falling simply because the Dragonriders were not ready, and so these new ranks were raised and trained as normal, taught to Fly and Fight their normal colored brethren, but Hyacinthe continued to struggle. With so few riders, how could they ever survive the coming fall and protect the people who depended upon them the most?
All seemed doomed. With only a few known Queens remaining in the world, and all of those stationed at a single Weyr, the Turns quickly passed and the threat of Fall grew more and more. Nearly a hundred turns later, not much had changed, Hyacinthe's numbers growing, but not nearly fast enough, the lack of candidates making it hard to Impress the dragons, and the Queens themselves seemed to be clutching less, rather than more, no matter the Smoke's ability to add in their own eggs. The former Junior Queen, now Senior, and old almost beyond measure, her rider nearly unable to move from her bed, Rose for the final time, and laid her final clutch, bringing hope to the near hopeless as she laid upon the sands a Queen egg, as well as thirty others. She lived only long enough to see her children Hatch, her daughter going to a strange young woman, scarred and battered, before she passed on into the Darkness, taking her rider with her.
The new Junior Queenrider, Keylani of Gold Alaulath, passed their weyrlinghood in training, as Queens always had, but the council of Hyacinthe had begun already to make plans for their future. They knew that without support, most likely from the North, they wouldn't be able to stand against the Fall that was so terribly soon to come, and though they were just barely out of training, the young pair were asked to spearhead a delegation to the other continent and hopefully set up a weyr there. Several trips had been made beforehand, and what appeared to be the safest place picked out, and though there would be terrible danger, the risk in not going was far greater. The pair agreed, and taking with them a contingent of all the riders Hyacinthe could spare, began the trip North where they would spend the remaining time before Thread fell reviving a weyr and hopefully taking in all the scattered, still living dragonriders. If unable to do so, they would return to Hyacinthe and help out there. Along with this group came Holders, Wherhandlers, even several Grounded, making the trek north through the Wastelands, over the barren sea, and finally onto a continent few of their group had ever been on.
The group was shocked by the devastation that met them, the few groups of survivors small and far between, and almost everything seeming to be ruined, tainted by the radiation, or destroyed by the chaos after the heavenly attack. Entire holds were left abandoned, the bones of the dead silent testement to what had happened, and strange, mutated creatures often crossed their paths, fierce beings that, while not intelligent, proved capable of great destruction by themselves. They seemed to have thrived in humanity's decline, along with Bandits and Thieves, the few groups that seemed almost unaffected by the Meteors, and proved nearly as dangerous. Eventually, however, Keylani and her group managed to make their way to the abandoned weyr that the Scouts had picked out, and quickly began to set up what they could, clearing dusty weyrs and getting everything back into as much shape as they could. Their Holders, along with the survivors that had joined them once they hit the North, set up two minor Holds nearby in an effort to normalize things, and every sevenday brings more stragglers as word passes around. There are even rare dragonriders, the few who actually Stood for a clutch, rounded up whenever a female managed to lay eggs, or those who came across a clutch entirely by chance, though these are incredibly few and usually somehow mutated. Soon the weyr was named Asesinato, after the Queen Rider who's Gold had first flown into the Lost Lands, its name tossed on whispers throughout the nearly dead continent.
And thus Asesinato came to be. But... Is the infant weyr ready to handle the challenges that come from defending a wild territory, to get enough of a foothold in the North to protect even the smallest area from danger and, eventuall, Thread? With its only Gold about to Rise, and enemies seemingly coming from all sides, will this tiny weyr rise to the top, or is it doomed from the start?
