IC Date: Week of April 15th, 2012 IC Time: 2:00 p.m. [/u][/center] Health: Approximately 4 months preggoMentari waited in the Imfirmiry, waiting for the doctor to finish with Nakia. They had made the trip down there together, knowing Nakia had a check-up scheduled. But now Mentari was waiting, which she didn't mind. Tad had yet to show up, and he had said he would come to the ultrasound. She smiled, her hands moving down to craddle her baby bump. She was so very excited to finally be able to see the baby. And to find out if it was a boy or girl. That was why she had waited so long for an ultrasound. She wanted to see if the baby was a Scott of Eleanor... She leaned back in the chair, smiling to herself.

Tad slipped into the infirmary. He had tried not to be there early, knowing Mentari and Nakia had been together.
Sometimes, girls needed to be girls without guys in the way. Especially where babies were concerned. Besides, when girls started talking about babies...
Tad was quite, quite glad he hadn't Impressed a female *dragon*, thinking about it. He was sure they were just as bad about their eggs. Seeing Mentari sitting there, though, one hand on her stomach, he burst into a big smile before heading over to join her.
Part of him still could not believe any of this was happening.

Mentari noticed Tad walk in, and when she looked over there was a huge grin on his face. She couldn't help but smile back at him. It seemed smiles were contagious these days. But she didn't mind. Far from it. She loved it when Tad smiled.
The doctor and Nakia came in at that moment. The doctor waved Mentari and Tad in while Nakia practically stalked out of the Infimiry. Mentari shook her head. She didn't want to know what was wrong with her sister...
Mentari walked forward, after having a little bit of trouble getting off the chair, and smiled at the doctor. The doctor smiled at her as well, then laughed. "You've gotten huge, Mentari." He joked. Mentari just nodded and smiled more.

Tad...ignored Nakia. She always seemed to be a little sour and was certainly nothing like Mentari. Except in appearance, a little bit.
Instead, he followed Mentari into the doctor's office. The joke about her being huge brought his concern back to the surface, but he wasn't going to voice it. They'd know soon. Soon enough they'd know what they had going on, 'hatchling' wise. Kimath kept insisting on calling the baby Mentari's hatchling, much to Tad's amusement.
Silly blue. But then, dragons, he had found, were often silly.

Mentari looked over at Tad, and lost her smile. He seemed upset about something. Was he not happy to be here? Was he not feeling well? Did Nakia give him a glare when she left? Mentari hung her head as they walked down the hallway.
The doctor opened a door and motioned them inside. Mentari went over to the examination bed and got up onto it. It took her a moment because of her baby bump, but she managed it. At the doctor's request she pulled her shirt up until her entire bump was revealed.
She glanced over at Tad again, giving him a shy and unconfident smile. She wished she knew what was wrong...

Tad chose to stay a little bit away, but his eyes were on Mentari now. Well, mostly on her bump. His kid was in there, for better or worse, boy or girl. Now, he smiled at her, managing to set his worries aside.
They were stupid, really. Women had been doing this all for so many generations and Mentari was young, but not *that* young. She...they...would be fine. But he was hoping to see a nice healthy kid on the screen, in any case... Boy or girl?
He realized he didn't care which it was at all.

Mentari noticed Tad smile at her, and she couldn't help but smile back at him. It would seem that whatever the problem was, he had either solved it himself or set it aside. She was happy that he had.
She smiled at the doctor when he put the gel on her stomach, spreading it around with the ultrasound wand. She found she was extremely excited to see if the baby was a boy or a girl. She didn't really mind either way, she would love the child no matter what gender it was. But she still wanted to know.
The doctor continued to move the wand around, looking intently at the images on the screen.

"So," Tad said quietly. "Which is it?"
They could finalize names once they knew. But there was a hint of something in his voice as the doctor watched the screen. Did it normally take this long? He would hardly know. He'd never been a father before.
So, he tried to peer over the doctor's shoulder, but he didn't want to get in the guy's space, so he was trying to do it from where he was. The angles were all wrong for him to see anything without getting up.

Mentari laughed slightly, watching Tad squirm. He seemed overly excited to find out if the baby was a boy or girl. And he was practically bouncing up and down to see over the doctor's shoulders. The doctor 'hmmm'ed.
"Are you aware you're carrying twins, Mentari?" He asked, turning to her.
Mentari froze for a moment. Twins? How could she be pregnant with twins? But the doctor couldn't possibly be wrong about something like that...
"Twins...?" She asked softly.
It was doubtless that she was surprised. Shocked, really. Mentari looked over at Tad for a moment, then leaned against the back of the bed.

Tad did not look...nearly as surprised as he should. Maybe he should have mentioned his suspicions. "Uh...it *would* explain how huge you are if you have two in there."
Now he felt just a little bit sheepish and embarrassed. At least it probably wasn't his fault...fraternal twins tended to run in the family of the *woman*. "Are they a matched set or an opposite one?" was the next thing he asked.
Maybe they were identical twins. But...twins. He watched Mentari carefully...seeing how she was handling this. He had been rather hoping he would turn out to be wrong.

What was she going to do with twins? One baby had been something she had been excited for. But two? With two babies around things were going to be doubly hard...
She looked over at Tad. He seemed to be handling it well. That was good. Atleast he wasn't a wreck like she was at the moment. She gave him a small grin, trying to calm herself down. She could feel her distress was bothering the babies. She was starting to feel a little sick to her stomach and she believed she could feel the babies kicking. Atleast moving around...
Mentari agreed with Tad, and she turned back to the doctor. "Are they fraternal or identical?" She asked. And then she smiled a little more calmly. "And are they boy or girl?" She asked.

Tad watched everything go through Mentari's face and was glad he hadn't mentioned his suspicions. Then she would have been am I aren't I...although they could just have done another ultrasound.
Twins. He wasn't sure how they would handle twins, but families had been doing that for centuries. So, it was definitely doable. Nobody in his family had ever had the issue, though. Twins. But...he found himself hoping for one of each. Wasn't that the perfect family?

The doctor smiled at Mentari and Tad reassuringly. He knew that twins were often a scary thing, especially when it was the first child. But he knew they would be able to handle it. Mentari and Tad were good kids, and there was no reason why they shouldn't be able to handle twins, of course with some familial help.
He looked back at the monitor. It was hard to tell with both babies, but he already knew the gender of one of them. That baby seemed determined for it's parents to know what it was. The doctor almost felt like laughing, the way the baby was sitting.
"We can tell one is a boy. It's a little hard to tell for the other. It's hiding behind it's brother, I'm afraid." The doctor said in a cheerful voice.
Mentari smiled over at Tad. "Looks like we have Scott." She said softly.
One boy. Mentari was excited to know what the other would be.

Tad grinned. "Well, we'll need a second boy name, then, just in case they do turn out to be a matched set."
He studied the image of his son on the screen...yeah, no doubt about the equipment there. Hrm. Second boy name...second boy name. "Any guys in your family you have a lot of respect for?" If they were a matched set, of course, they could not be sure the one showing off like that would end up being Scott. Scott was a good name, though.

((Sorry for the belated responce. Stupid Job Corps computers blocked Rocky...))
Mentari leaned back and thought about it for a few minutes. Another man she respected...? She respected and loved her grandfathers. Lynn just didn't seem like a boy's name, though. It sounded too much like a girl's name...
But Ronald might do.
And they could call him Ronnie, like people called her grandfather. She smiled at the thought, at the same time the doctor spoke.
"And it looks like you're having twin boys. I may be wrong, but from this angle the second baby does appear to be male." He said, pointing to the screen.
Mentari smiled as she looked at the screen. Then she turned to Tad. "Scott and Ronald? Maybe..." She asked, smiling at him. She was now so very excited to see what their children would look like.

Tad hrmed. "I could go with that, although I suspect Ronald will end up Ronnie or Ron in short order." Just as pretty much nobody called him Thaddeus. Or T'deus, even if he was entitled to the Pernese honorific. It was not something he had quite managed to get his mind around.
"We won't know which one is which, though...I suppose we could decide based on who comes out first, or just wait until we see them properly." The ultrasound screen showed that they were healthy babies, but they were definitely a long way from being 'finished' yet, as it were.

Mentari laughed softly. "Ronnie is what people call my grandfather." She explained. She didn't mind the nickname so much, but it seemed it had provoked some thoughts to Tad.
She smiled at his comment of how to name them, however. She didn't have any experience with twins, and if they truly were both boys... She just hoped there would be one small difference between them. So she could tell them apart.
((Sorry for short post.))

They might be identical, Tad thought...and if so, he was so not going to let anyone dress them the same and think it cute. He'd once seen a set of twins dressed in shirts that read 'I was planned' and 'I was a surprise'...but in this case, this had not been a planned pregnancy. A welcomed one, yes, but not a planned one.
And certainly twins had not been planned for. "Ronnie it is, then," was what he said out loud. "We're going to need *two* cribs," he added. Not that there was a shortage of pure material resources at the Weyr.

Mentari looked over at Tad. "Well, before we decide on a second name, is there any guys in your family that you have a lot of respect for?" She asked. She wanted to know, because perhaps they could find another name. It didn't feel right to name both of them- one after her father and one after her grandfather- if they could find one from Tad's family.
She smiled at the crib comment. "I'm sure Faizah can help us with that." She said softly. Faizah knew a lot about babies.

OOC: I'm lousy at names, though!
Tad considered that. "The problem is, I don't really like any of the names. One of them is Thaddeus, and I don't want the poor kid to be tagged Junior. I always thought that was kind of...lame and uncreative. And the other is Simon. Which just makes me think of the kids' game."
He wasn't letting her pick because he was being unfair, but because he didn't like the names of his relatives. Well. He liked his *own* name, but he hated 'Junior' and he wasn't going to do that to either of the twins.

Mentari couldn't help but laugh. "True. I have the same thoughts." She smiled at Tad. "So I guess Ronnie and Scott are their names." She said once more.
She glanced down at her baby bump and smiled. Then she looked over at the screen, watching the moving images. The doctor was watching as well, and after a few moments, removed the ultrasound wand from her stomach. He handed her a towel.
"Everything looks fine. Two healthy looking twins." He said with a smile.

"They'd better be healthy." Or Tad would be mad with the powers that be...more for Mentari's sake. The twins were an abstract thing so far, images on a screen.
Still...they did LOOK healthy as far as he could tell and if the doctor said they were then they had to be. Two boys...two sons.
Of course, they would run their parents ragged. Twins always did...

Mentari glanced at Tad, a frown on her face. He had sounded so vehement when he said that. It didn't sound like his normal self. But then Mentari kept in mind how worried he had been this whole time.
She noticed the doctor left the room. She almost smiled, knowing she would have asked him to leave anyway. She looked over at Tad. "What's wrong?" She asked as she started cleaning off her stomach. She focused her attention on that task, instead of looking up at Tad.

"Sorry. I'm just stressed out about being a father," Tad admitted. "You know how much I worry."
He would have moved to slip an arm around her, but...he waited until she had the gel off. "I'm worried they're going to run us ragged," he admitted finally. "And I kinda guessed from how huge you were getting."
They couldn't exactly get Kimath and Ladeth to babysit, after all...well, Ladeth *maybe*. She might remember what she was doing from one minute to the next. Possibly.

She tossed the towel aside, managing it to land on the counter. Then she got off the exam table and walked over to Tad. She hated to see him look so distraught...
She cupped his face in her hands when she approached him. "Please try not to worry. I have a very good feeling that everything is going to work perfectly." She whispered to him. She leaned up and pressed a small kiss to the corner of his mouth.
She leaned away from him, hopeing to see a smile soon. "And if they do run us ragged, I'm sure someone in my family would be willing to babysit for a little while. Lakeen and Virika are obssessed with babies." She laughed gently. She hoped he would stop stressing so much...
